shaping the ball
Its a rare game when you do not get into trouble at least once... Getting out again is worth spending some time practicing!
When shaping shots by playing a draw or hitting a fade there are 3 fundamentals to remember :
- Always aim your clubface where you want the ball to finish.
- Always aim your feet, hips and shoulders where you want the ball to start.
- Always swing the club on the line of your feet.
THE DRAW : To hit an intentional hook or draw you must:
- Aim your clubface where you would like the ball to finish.
- Aim your feet hips and shoulders where you would like the ball to start.
- Swing the club in line with your feet, therefore swinging on an exaggerated in-to-out swing path.
- Play the ball slightly further back in your stance.
- Allow less club than normal as the ball will tend to run on landing due to the amount of overspin imparted by this shot. Control the amount of draw by varying how far to the right your feet, hips & shoulders aim.
THE FADE : To hit an intentional fade aim you must:
- Aim your feet, hips and shoulders at where you want the ball to start.
- Aim your clubface at your intended finishing target.
- With the clubface now open to your body in terms of alignment, you will create the necessary left-to-right sidespin to curve the ball. Swing along the line of your feet which creates a out-to-in swing path.
- When hitting a fade keep the ball slightly further forward in your stance as the ball will fly slightly higher and land softer so take an extra club.
